Peru holds a special place in a traveller's wish list and imagination. It is a kaleidoscope of natural wonders, ancient civilisations, legends and folklore, echoing with music and exploding with colour. Festivals honour its ancient customs at the Inca festival of Inti Raymi in June, while its Spanish Catholic heritage is remembered in another period of feasting and prayer on All Souls' Day in November.

Peru holidays with Abercrombie & Kent is the way to see this wonderful, diverse country in style.

Geographically, Peru can be divided into three distinctive regions - the long, low coastal strip home to the main cities of Lima and Trujillo - the starting point for many Peru holidays; the remote vastness of the Amazon basin in the east and the magnificent heights of the Andes in the centre. Any Peru holidays should include a Cusco tours, not just for its amazing mix of Inca and Spanish culture, but also for its standing as the gateway to Machu Picchu. Here visitors can choose from a rigorous and invigorating four-day trek, a less active one-day trek or an incredible train journey all rewarded by ending at the famous Inca citadel - the highlight of a unforgettable Machu Picchu holidays in Peru.

The spectacular Northern Peru is rich in archaeology, history and scenic contrasts. As well as the cold waters of some of the world's most plentiful fishing grounds and the Amazon Rainforest, it is also home to the stark deserts, fertile valleys and mountains that gave birth to several great pre-Inca civilisations.

Apart from its ancient civilisations, Peru holidays offer a kaleidoscope of natural wonders including the vast mountains of the Huascaran National Park and magical Lake Titicaca - the highest navigable lake in the world and home to the unique floating reed islands of Uros. The extraordinary Amazon rainforest, with its abundant flora and fauna, is a dramatic contrast to the volcanoes of the Colca Canyon.

Arequipa is the second largest and most beautiful city in Peru. Tucked away on the altiplano at an altitude of 2,325 metres it was founded by the Spaniards in 1540. With a magnificent backdrop of snowy volcanoes, the cone of El Misti and the Nevada Chachani, Arequipa is a stylish city.

Paracas and Nazca lines are places that should be seen together; one is a marine eco-system and the other is a desert. The Nazca lines have been declared a Cultural Heritage and it still remains a mystery as to how these drawings were created and why.

A&K Peru holidays offer a fascinating view of this land of history, life, colour and contrast.
